In the world of international trade, it's easy to focus solely on orders, specifications, and shipping dates. But every once in a while, business becomes something more personal.

Last July, I had the pleasure of welcoming a very special guest to my home: my Spanish friend Alvaro, along with his girlfriend.

Alvaro and I first got to know each other through business. He had been visiting suppliers in China, as many international buyers do. But this time, his visit was different.

Even though I had left my previous position and started my own business, Alvaro didn't come as a client. He came as a friend.

A Day of Friendship, Not Transactions

We spent a wonderful afternoon together at my home in Shenzhen. There were no purchase orders, no negotiation tables — just good conversation, laughter, and catching up on life.

To welcome them, I prepared a hearty homemade Chinese lunch. We shared stories, talked about our families, and enjoyed each other's company across cultures.

Before they left, we exchanged thoughtful gifts — small tokens of friendship that meant more than any contract ever could.

What I Learned That Day

This experience reminded me of something I've always believed:

Business is not just about transactions. It's about building relationships.

When you treat your clients as partners — and sometimes even as friends — work becomes more meaningful. Challenges become easier to solve. Success becomes something to celebrate together.
